1. Day

morning arrival at trivandrum from , goa or delhi . after the reception in the hotel we will stroll around this friendly , relaxed city built over seven forested hills . the city of the sacred snakes has managed to retain the magic ambience so characteristic of kerala red - tiled roofs , narrow winding lanes and intimate corner cafes . the museum has a good collection of bronzes , historical and contemporary ornaments , temple carts , ivory carvings and life size figures of dancers in full regalia . the zoo , one of the best laid - out in asia includes examples of almost every tropical tree besides several rare spices of birds and reptiles , too .

2. Day

Our days excursion takes us first to padmanabapuram , once the seat of the rulers of travancore . Here is the best pagoda - shaped wooden palace with staggeringly beautiful 17th and 18th century murals . Further we drive to kanyakumari or cape comorin , the southern tip of the indian subcontinent . It is a popular pilgrimage destina nation of great spiritual significance to hindus . Swami vivekananda came here and meditated on the rock where his memorial has been built , before setting out s an important religious crusader . Another memorial has been erected in memory of mahatma gandhi . Most interesting are the pilgrims who come here from all over the country , representing a good cross section of india.

3. Day
Trivandrum - Quilon - Allepey

Morning drive from trivandrum to quilon , where the backwaters begin. Nothing you have heard or read prepares you for the backwaters of kerala - an exclusive feature of this god's own land . The mystical serene and breathtakingly beautiful backwaters beackon you for a long cruise in country boats - a cruise in country boats - a cruise which will give you memories to cherish for a lifetime .

4. Day
Alleppey - Thekkady

Today's route leads us through endless cocunut -plantations , gracefully moving in the light sea breeze . Behind the fertile strip on the malabarcoast rise the western ghats , a natural boundary between kerala and the rest of india . These high mountains have sheltered kerala from invaders from the rest of india but , at the same time , it has a very long history of contact with the outside world , which accounts for so many differences in customs , lifestyle , dresscode and cusine . The landscape in the mountains reveals breathtaking views across rubber plantations , aromatic spice gardens , coffee and teaplantations and endlessly forested hills . The crisp white lungi clothed residents of kerala go about their tasks ynchanged . Their lives are clocked by the slow tick of the seasons , politics and by various colourful festivals . On the other hand , nowhere in india can one find so many spacious bungalows exhibiting novel architecture set amidst lush green gardens growing everything from papaya to pepper . Right in the heart of the famous periyar wildlife sanctuary rests thekkady and our village resort , set in a spice garden , blends well with the surrounding greenary of the pepper vines .

5. Day
Thekkady - Kottayam

The periyar wildlife sanctuary is centred around a large artificial lake where we will take a special game viewing boatcruise . Elephants , bison , sambardeer and wild boar are the animals you're most likely to see , besides the common monkeys allover the place . Although , as with any kind of safari there is the possibility of seeing nothing much in the way of big game , the abstract scenery of the landscape alone during the boatride is a feast to the eyes . After a jungle trek and plantation visit we drive back westward to kottayam , a picturesque little village .

6. Day
Kottayam - Cochin

The stretch between kottayam and alleppey is said to be the most scenic part of the backwaters. A boatride of only two hours takes us through tiny waterways , while being hailed with a warm greeting every now and then by the local population living on the shores. A short drive from alleppey to cochin opens fantastic views across lagoons used by local riceboats , chinese fishing boats and ferries topped by omnibus structures . The afternoon we spend in cochin , an important harbour for the export of spices , tea and seafood. For centuries the jewish town of cochin has been a busy centre , which plays a vital role in cochin's economy . We visit the jewish synagogue with its old treasure and hundreds of chinese tiles , each one different from the other . Nearby stands the matten chery or dutch palace , blending harmoniously with the basic thread of kerala's rich heritage .

7.-9. Day
Cochin - Lakkadiven

The morning flight from cochin to agatti and a smooth boattransfer takes us to bangaram island . Not yet widely known to the world and deep in the azura waters of the indian ocean lie in the string of lakshadweep islands approximately 200 miles off the south west coast of india. The jewel of the lakshadweep is bangaram island, a tearrop -shaped , virtually uninhabited virgin island . Indulge yourself in a perfectly lethargic holiday doing nothing but discovering the myraid forms of undersea life , snorkeling or suba diving . Soak up the warm golden sun , the sand , the waves and the breeze and live blending with nature in the thatched spacious huts equipped with all the comforts you require.

10. Day
Lakkadiven - Cochin

The wonder of sea , sun and aquatic life ends with our boattransfer to agatti , from where we will board a flight back to cochin .

11. Day
Cochin - Conoor

From cochin our drive back takes us up into the crisp , clean air of the nilgiris or " blue mountains' , where almost every inch of land seems to be blessed by mother nature . On these hills the good climate and fresh air are a welcomed retreat for the affluent from the plains , be it the british or the indians . During a walk in and around the picturesque village of coonoor , watching the sunset in fast motion over the mountains , our hearts cannot be but content .

12. Day
Conoor - Mudumalai

At first we climb a little higher and reach ooty or ootaca mund the queen of hill stations , nestled among some of the most spectacular mountains in southern india . Amidst stone cottages and fenced flower gardens scattered along leafy , winding lanes with tall eucalyptus trees is the ooty lake , where we take a boatride . From the summit of these blue mountains we enjoy a panoramic view of endless green teagardens , numerous winding roads , far off villages and still more and more purple valleys as far as the eye can see . In the afternoon we proceed downhill on a steep mountainroad to the wildlife resort mudumalai . A romantic , rustic setting , impossible not to fall in love with , will be our home for the next two nights .

13. Day

A morning filled with walks , jeep-safaris or just rest with-in the overflowing greenery of the jungle skylined by the rugged mountains of the nilgiris . Stimulating and exciting is our safari into the jungle at a different pace - high up in a howdah on a tamed elephant . We may see , of course with-out guarantee , herds of spotted deer , indian bison , wild boar , sloth , otters and maybe even a tiger or panther . Just fancy , after the ride the elephants are given a ceremonial bath and are worshipped in the typical hindu spirit with drums , incense and flowers.

14. Day
Mudumalai - Kabini

Not far from mudumalai runs the river kabini . The maharaja of mysore selected the best spot on its shore as a hunting lodge . The forest is ever so green , the gentle waters of the river ever so blue and the wildlife ever so abundant . Our experienced naturalists ensure that you will have the best game viewing possible during our jeep safari in the afternoon . This will be followed by a romantic campfire .

15. Day
Kabini - Mysore

After being served morning tea on your room terrace we will go into the park and experience our exciting coracle tour . The coracle is a round ative boat somewhat similar to a basket . Astonishing aquatic birdlife and crocodiles can be spotted . Afterwards we spend some time in the lodge or go for an elephant - ride . Our onward drive brings us back to civilisation to the beautiful city of mysore .

16. Day
Mysore and Bangalore

At the chamundi temple on top of the hill , guarding the city of mysore , many pilgrims are offering pooja to the deity . Half way downhill stands a huge monolithic nandi - bull . There after we visit the maharaja palace of mysore , one of the richest and most fancy palaces in india ., Opulent with objets d'art from all over the world . Walk amidst the splendour of yesteryears. Against all these treasures even the beautiful lalitha mahal palace at the periphery of mysore , can't compare . Enroute from mysore to bangalore lies one of the most delicate carved temples of india , the hoysala temple of somnathpur .

17. Day
Bangalore - Bombay

Bangalore is a , beautifully laid - out city with a number of parks , gardens , broad avenues with flowering trees and a modern , westernised atmosphere . It's also one of the fastest growing industrial cities in the country with all the disadvantages which usually accompany ndustriali sation . The temple of the largest monolithic nandi - bull and tippu sultan's small wooden palace are two of the few older monuments in bangalore . The pride of all bangaloreans is the parliament building, impressive and majestic , and built after independence . In the evening transfer to the airport and flight to bombay . A wonderful dream , a retreat into a world mostly unspoilt by civilisation , as created by god , has become a reality . Your flight back home starts around midnight .
